Monthly Theme: Assessing Wellness. Reading time: two minutes.
“If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will get you there.”
The first step is defining for yourself what wellness looks like. You’ll then know how to start making a plan. More important, you’ll be able to see when you’re making progress.
What does healthy look like to you? How do you define healthy relationships? What’s your definition of a healthy approach to your calling at work? How will you know when your finances are in a healthy place?
I’m glad to share our definitions. Hopefully you’ll adapt and adopt them so that they speak to you, or draft your own!
Here’s what I like about ours. JOY is a great indicator of God at work in our lives. Our Markers of Wellness emphasize God’s healing touch that always brings health and joy.
They’re also simple. They use language of the Fruit of the Spirit and the one word definitions we’ve shared the last two weeks.
And they’re biblical. If you look closely, you’ll find hints of the language from Ephesians 4 in each one.
But for a wellness target to matter, it has to be your own.
Here’s ours. How would you define wellness?
Baptismal As I grow in God’s grace of Baptismal LOVE, I am finding joy in my IDENTITY as His new creation in Christ.
Spiritual As I grow in God’s grace of Spiritual GOODNESS, I am finding joy in RECEPTIVITY to His gifts, maturing and growing in Christ.
Relational As I grow in God’s grace of Relational PATIENCE, I am finding joy in my UNITY in Christ with spouse, family and church.
Intellectual As I grow in God’s grace of Intellectual KINDNESS, I am finding joy in CURIOSITY, listening and speaking in a beneficial way.
Emotional As I grow in God’s grace of Emotional PEACE, I am finding joy in HARMONY with others by the healing power of forgiveness.
Vocational As I grow in God’s grace of Vocational GENTLENESS, I am finding joy in HUMILITY as I serve through my calling and gifts.
Physical As I grow in God’s grace of Physical SELF-CONTROL, I am finding joy in the VITALITY that flows from practicing healthy choices.
Financial As I grow in God’s grace of Financial FAITHFULNESS, I am finding joy in GENEROSITY, sharing with others as I have been blessed.
